OC-ALC Achieves First-Ever Perfect Energy Recertification
The recertification reaffirms the complex’s adherence to standards established by the International Organization for Standardization, a global network of national standards bodies setting benchmarks for rigorous energy management practices across both public and private sectors.
In 2017, the OC-ALC made history as the first U.S. government organization to achieve ISO 50001 certification and the first to integrate the standard directly with an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC).
This latest three-year recertification validates the complex’s sustained commitment to continual energy optimization and mission readiness. Over the last three years, the OC-ALC has lowered its energy consumption by over 7%, generating approximately $2.1 million in annual energy savings for the Air Force.
This significant reduction was achieved through ESPC oversight, ISO 50001 compliance and proactive base civil engineering support, even as the OC-ALC’s operational workload expanded.
“The ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard provides a framework to ensure that we are focusing our resources and making progress on projects that will be maximally impactful. Being certified means we have developed and maintained a data driven system that can sustainably reduce waste and improve energy assurance for the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex,” said Kristen Robitaille, OC-ALC energy co-manager. “Work for recertification happens every day through using and continually improving our energy management system. But leading up to the audit we also complete quarterly document reviews, prepare leadership for interviews and prime Significant Energy Use areas for types of documentation they might need to produce.”
Effective energy management requires more than technical upgrades, it demands a team of dedicated individuals who can track, monitor and document all the actions taken to conserve energy and ensure maximum efficiency.
“True energy performance relies on continuous improvement across our Significant Energy Uses and system operations, driven by executive commitment, integrated into core business processes and supported by maintained and meticulous records documentation," said Keegan Chisolm, OC-ALC energy co-manager.
The OC-ALC accounts for more than half of Tinker's total energy footprint. Achieving this three-year recertification demonstrates the power of ongoing partnerships and teamwork across the base. These sustained efforts allow the complex to maintain disciplined energy performance while continuing to meet our warfighter commitments.
Since 2017 the OC-ALC has reduced over 37% of energy consumption and has saved the Air Force over $24 million.
The OC-ALC is the largest aerospace Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul unit in the Department of War, supported by more than 9,300 military and civilian personnel dedicated to delivering combat-ready airpower.
